Tuesday October 26, 2004, was a night in which democracy ruled in Cambridge.
The people had been requesting rationalized buffer policy for the areas covered by the Hespeler West Subwatersheds Study, though the bureaucrats insisted that the generic30m buffer policy was inflexible. The bureaucrats and members of the Maple Grove Wetlands Association presented our respective cases before Council at a special meeting on Tuesday evening. By the end of the night, the members of Council agreed with us that the information in the Subwatersheds Comprehensive EIS was complete enough to refine the buffer policy to 15m around wetlands, and 5m around forests.
These numbers were initially provided to us by a credible environmental consultant, were confirmed by our own research, and are consistent in terms of what other developments are getting around Waterloo Region.
