Servants of the King



Now God granted Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials,

Read the entire chapter 1 and answer the following questions:

  1. What did Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah have in common?
  2. By what criteria did the king select his personal servants?
  3. What is the concern of Melzar?
  4. Why does Daniel become vegetarian?
  5. What is the significance of the name changes recorded in verse 7?
  6. In what ways did the four differ from their counterparts? What reason is given for this?
  7. We observe that the number ten is used to describe the trial in verse 12, and to describe the magnitude of wisdom in verse 20. What other references in the scripture utilize this quantity? To some it may appear that ten times as wise (v20) seems a somewhat arbitrary metric. What do you think?
