Commentary
Read the entire chapter 1 and answer the following
questions:
- What did Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah have
in common?
- By what criteria did the king select his personal
servants?
- What is the concern of Melzar?
- Why does Daniel become vegetarian?
- What is the significance of the name changes
recorded in verse 7?
- In what ways did the four differ from their
counterparts? What reason is given for this?
- We observe that the number ten is used to
describe the trial in verse 12, and to describe the
magnitude of wisdom in verse 20. What other references
in the scripture utilize this quantity? To some it may
appear that ten times as wise (v20) seems a somewhat
arbitrary metric. What do you think?
