Read the entire chapter 4 and answer the following questions:

  1. The Babylonian kingdom under Nebuchadnezzar is arguably the first world empire. He is powerful and able to quell any uprisings in this domain. We are not aware of any wars or rebellions under his rule, what are we to make of the proclamation of peace in verse 1?
  2. What does the declaration of Nebuchadnezzar seem to reveal about him?
  3. What is it that he still seems confused about?
  4. Where else in the Bible does it use the imagery of the tree?
  5. Explain the intended meaning of three of the passages chosen from the prioritized list created in response to the previous question.
  6. Summarize in three brief points, what is said in verse 17.
  7. How are we to understand the events of the recent past in light of these scriptures?
