The Gospel of John - Overview

Read all of John. Pay special attention to points which may help you answer the following questions. Once you have read John, use secondary sources to supplement your answers.

1. Who is the author of “John”? How do you know?



2. To whom does John address this gospel (clues within the text)? For what purpose is he writing the gospel?



3. John specifies seven specific events in the gospel. What are they (references)? Why does he use these? What do they reveal about Christ?



4. John uses a variety of different titles for Christ. What are some of these, and what special significance do you think they have (we’ll get into these in more detail as we go through the gospel)?



5. In your opinion, what is the key chapter(s)/verse(s) in the entire gospel? Why?
