Who is He?

Read: John 1:19-29

1. Who are the “Jews” in vs. 19? Why did they send priests and Levites to ask who John was?



2. With regards to vs. 21ff, why do the Jews ask John if he is Christ? Elijah? the Prophet (who is the “Prophet”?)?.



3. Consider John’s response to the Jews in vs. 23. Refer to the original passage to undersand its context (explain this context). Why did John quote these words?



4. What is the significance of baptism in vs. 25? What is baptism? What did it mean to the Jews?



5. Carefully consider John’s response in vs. 26. What is he saying? What is he not saying?
