The Spirit of Truth
Read:
John 16:5-15
-
In verse 6, Jesus suspects that the disciples are filled with grief because
of what He has just spoken. Recount what Jesus has said that would make
the disciples grieve.
-
Do you believe that the disciples really had a" good handle" on what
Jesus has said during this discourse up to this time?
-
If not, why did Jesus state that their hearts were filled with grief?
-
What does Jesus mean in John 16:10 when he states that the Counselor will
convict the world of guilt "in regard to righteousness, because I am going
to the Father, where you can see me no longer"?
-
In John 14:17, Jesus speaks of the Counselor, the Spirit of truth. Here
he elaborates on that thought by stating that the Spirit will guide "you
into all truth". Pilate will soon ask the question" "What is truth?" (John
18:38; see also John 8:32, 1 John 4:6 ). Truth is quintessential
for the Christian church, and is the essence of what Satan is determined
to destroy. Because of this attack on truth and our tendency to be blinded
to this attack, the church of Jesus Christ has lost relevancy in our
culture.
-
Elaborate on this theme -- what do you say to this?
-
As a secondary consideration, how does one know that one is walking
in the truth?
-
How do you know that you are walking in the truth?
