Read:
John 18

Why is it that now, after years of being with them in the temple, that
the Jews denounce Jesus, especially since the Old Testament prophecies
all pointed toward him? Is there a parallel in the church today?
-
Why did it have to be Judas who betrays Jesus (18:2)? Why did it have
to be one of the twelve and not an outsider? At what point did Judas
know he was going to betray Jesus? Is Judas' sin forgiveable?
-
Why did the solders fall back and fall to the ground (18:6)?
-
Why was Jesus led to Annas, the father-in-law of Caiaphas (18:13)?
-
Who is the disciple known to the high priest (18:15)? How would these
two know each other? What is the purpose of stating this here?
-
Why does Jesus respond the way he does? (18:20-21)
-
Why didn't the Jews enter the palace (18:28)? Is there any Old Testament
reference that you can give? Why was Jesus subsequently dragged in?
-
Why couldn't the Jews execute someone (18:31)? Cf. The woman caught in
adultery (John 8:3ff).
-
What was Pilate really asking when he asked, "What is truth?"
(18:38)?
